The King is Here!

Scripture Reading: Luke 2:1–20

Reflection

Can you imagine this? You’re at work, minding your own business, when suddenly the sky explodes with light, and an angel stands right in front of you. Terrifying, right? Even though the angel tells you not to be afraid, your heart is pounding. Then comes the message: “Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.” Before you can process that, the sky fills with a heavenly choir shouting: “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace among those with whom He is pleased!” Then, just as quickly, they’re gone. What would you do?!

The shepherds didn’t debate it, dismiss it, or wait for a convenient time. They said, “We’ve got to go see this Savior!” They dropped everything, hurried to Bethlehem, heard the good news, acted on it, and found Him just as the angels had said. Jesus’ first visitors gave us a pattern to follow: when we hear the good news that the King has come, we drop everything and go to Him. And when they stepped into His presence, their hearts were strengthened, filled with joy, and forever changed. It was a gift—the greatest gift—the gift of a transformed life. When the shepherds returned to their everyday world, they were not the same men. They praised God, told people, and made much of Him everywhere they went. Seeing Jesus changed everything for them.

And that’s the beauty of Christmas for us today. Hearing about Jesus is wonderful, but seeing Him—seeking Him, meeting with Him, being with Him—is life changing. God invites us into His presence, and that invitation is His gift. So, brothers and sisters, on this Christmas Day, let’s not settle for simply talking about Jesus or hearing stories about Him. Let’s receive the gift. Let’s seek Him. Let’s be with Him. As the Psalmist says: “Enter His gates with thanksgiving, and His courts with praise! Give thanks to Him; bless His name! For the Lord is good; His steadfast love endures forever, and His faithfulness to all generations.”

Reflection Questions

  1. How does the shepherds’ response challenge how you respond to Jesus today?
  1. What does it look like for you to “go to Him” rather than simply talk about Him?
  1. How has meeting Jesus changed your life?
  1. Who might God be prompting you to share the good news with this Christmas?

Application

  • Seek Jesus intentionally today—through prayer, worship, Scripture, or quiet reflection.
  • Share the gift of Jesus with someone in your life. Offer encouragement, Scripture, or a simple testimony of how He’s changed you.
  • Carry worship into your day. Whether with family, neighbors, or friends, speak often of God’s goodness and faithfulness.

Additional Scripture for Deeper Study

  • Psalm 100:4–5
  • Isaiah 9:6–7
  • John 1:14
  • Titus 3:4–7

Family Activity
