KENDALL MOORE
EXECUTIVE ASSOCIATE
KENDALL.MOORE@USAVE.COM
I accepted Christ at the age of 12 in 1975 at the Billy Graham
Crusade in Jackson. I remember it vividly. My folks had divorced when I
was five, and my mom had remarried my step-dad, Bob Holleman. His
mother, Ruth Holleman, had taught Sunday School at Calvary Baptist
Church forever. Calvary became my home, and Joe Tuten became my pastor.
By
the time that I was in High School, I had learned that trying to excel
to make other people happy just didn't work. Then I tried doing things
just for me. That didn't satisfy, either. In my Junior year, I locked
in to Colossians 3:23, and I got really serious about my faith. Trying
to please God became a passion, and it changed my life.
I was
personally mentored and discipled by men like Lee Shaw with Youth for
Christ, Don Witzel, my youth minister, and Joe Tuten, who became like a
grandfather to me, my confidant and my mentor in many ways. Other men
added to that foundation in college, through Campus Crusade and the BSU
and other student ministries. As a result, I place a high value on
small group discipleship and personal mentorship, and I have a passion
for working with young people and young adults.
I have struggled
with a call to ministry ever since high school. My problem is that I
could never figure out the difference between the unique call people
seemed to have to serve in a church setting, and the call all of us
have to individual, vocational ministry. As a result, I've played at
ministry all my life, and I've continued to ask God all along the way
if it was time to change my vocational path.
I went to
engineering school at MSU and law school at Ole Miss, and I went to
work for a large law firm for the next 13 years. Beth and I married in
1984, and in 1988, we joined Broadmoor, where we met Tom and Jana
McDonnell. In 2000, Tom asked me to become his in-house lawyer, and he
encouraged the ministry activities that had become so vital to me
personally, including serving in many capacities at Broadmoor.
In
August 2006, Broadmoor asked me to help out on a part time basis as
Executive Associate. I'm still humbled by the opportunity to work with
our "real" staff. God has brought an amazing team of men and women
together in this place for this moment. I delighted to work with them
for a season, and I'm often amazed at what God is doing among us. I
really believe that we can become the place where hundreds, if not
thousands, of people who have never had a relationship with Jesus
Christ can find hope and healing and comfort and salvation.
Thanks for letting me serve along side of you.
