TATE COCKRELL

Dr. Tate Cockrell was raised in Laurel, Mississippi and graduated from William Carey University in Hattiesburg, Mississippi with a bachelor of Science in Psychology.  He went to Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas where he earned an M.A. in Religious Education and an M.A. in Marriage and Family Therapy as well as a Ph. D. in Psychology and Counseling.    

Before coming to Broadmoor, Dr. Cockrell served as Director of Ministries for Dawson McAllister Association, a national youth ministry.  While there he co-hosted Dawson McAllister Live a nationally syndicated live radio program reaching 500,000 people each week.  He still serves on the Board of Directors for the HopeLine, a subsidiary of Dawson McAllister Association.    

Recently, he was Assistant Professor of Psychology and Counseling at New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary for Four years where he continues to teach classes on a regular basis.    

He travels throughout the United States speaking and preaching in conferences and churches on marriage and family issues.  He loves reading science fiction, playing golf, hunting and traveling with his family.  He is married to Wendy Posey of Ellisville, Mississippi.  They have one daughter, Tatum, and twin sons, Preston and Spencer.

CLIFF HARDIN

CARE AND SENIOR ADULT PASTOR

Cliff Hardin was raised in Leakesville, Mississippi and graduated from Mississippi College in Clinton, Mississippi with a Bachelor of Arts with a major in Christian Studies and a minor in Psychology.  Cliff completed one unit of Clinical Pastoral Education at Mississippi Baptist Health Systems followed by four units of Clinical Pastoral Education at the Sonny Montgomery VA Hospital which included experience at the University of Mississippi Medical Center and The State Hospital at Whitfield.  He has also earned a master of Divinity with an emphasis in Psychology and Counseling at New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary.    

He currently serves as a staff counselor at Broadmoor Baptist Church.  There he performs marital, family, and individual therapy encompassing many issues including depression, anxiety, self esteem and relational issues and provides spiritual counsel.  He also serves as the Triage Counselor.  Cliff serves as Staff Chaplain at Mississippi Baptist Health Systems where he provides spiritual counsel and crisis intervention to staff and patients.  He is also an adjunct professor for the Clinical Pastoral Education program at Mississippi Baptist Health Systems.    

Before coming to Broadmoor, Cliff served at Parkview Baptist Church in Metairie, Louisiana as the Senior Adult Minister where he supplied counseling to homebound and nursing home members as well as individual and marital therapy including depression and conflict resolution.  He also served as Pastoral Care Pastor at First Baptist Church of Jackson, Mississippi, where he provided pastoral counsel, visited hospitals and nursing homes, and performed weddings and funerals.    

Cliff enjoys woodworking, hunting, fishing, and traveling with his wife.  He is married to Diana Thornton of Brandon, Mississippi. Cliff and Diana have a little girl named Alex.

   

JOHN DAMON

STAFF COUNSELOR

John Damon has a wealth of knowledge, experience, and passion.  Born in Brookhaven, MS, John attended Mississippi College, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology.  He later attended Reformed Theological Seminary where he earned a Master of Arts in Marriage and Family Therapy.  In 2003, John earned a Doctor of Philosophy degree in clinical psychology from Jackson State University.    

John currently serves as chief operating officer at Mississippi Children’s Home Services.  In his role at MCHS, John is responsible for all administrative and programmatic operations, including the management of an $11.5 annual budget.  He is also co-owner of Colony Crossing Management (d/b/a Pizza Inn) located in Madison, MS.  John is also part of the adjunct faculty of Reformed Theological Seminary where he has the opportunity to teach several courses each year.  His previous experience includes being a center director, interim center director, clinical therapist, and clinical supervisor for various treatment care centers in Mississippi.    

A gifted communicator, John has conducted dozens of professional presentations in Mississippi, as well as throughout the United States.  He has been a young adult Sunday School teacher for several years, including teaching his current young married adult class at Broadmoor Baptist Church.    

John and his wife Helaina have five children:  Darby, David, Dean, Demi, and Drew.  They reside in Madison and are members of Broadmoor Baptist Church.

   

CHARLOTTE YOUNT, LPC

STAFF COUNSELOR

Charlotte grew up in Jackson, Mississippi. She graduated from Hinds Jr. College and felt led to return later to complete her undergraduate degree in Social and Rehabilitation services at USM in Hattiesburg.Charlotte received her Master of Science in Counseling Psychology from Mississippi College, and completed requirements for her Licensed Professional Counselor credentials. Charlotte hopes to use her life experiences and relationship with Christ to offer an empathetic Christ-centered approach to her counseling.

Charlotte has conducted both individual and group counseling withadults and adolescents at St. Dominic Behavioral Health, Region 8 Mental Health Center, Summit Counseling of First Baptist Churchof Jackson, and Psycamore Partial Psychiatric Hospital. She is a Certified Tobacco Treatment Specialist with the Tobacco Quitline anda therapist here at Broadmoor. In addition to working with addictions, Charlotte has experience working with anxiety, depression, stress management, life coaching, women’s issues, marriage & divorce issues, bipolar disorder, and abuse issues.

Charlotte has two adult children. She enjoys spending time with close friends, traveling, reading and listening to Christian contemporary music. Riding her recumbent tricycle with her Doberman, Anya, running alongside, is one of her favorite outdoor activities, as well as gardening.

   

JOHN STEVENS

STAFF COUNSELOR

John grew up in Clinton, MS where his father was a religion professor at Mississippi College. Having been reared in a Christian home it was natural for him to make a profession of faith and be baptized at an early age. He graduated from high school from Woodland Hills Baptist Academy where his mother taught.

Dr. Stevens was a senior pastor for 20 years in churches in Mississippi and Florida before continuing his education in the area of counseling. He holds a Master of Divinity and Doctor of Philosophy degrees in New Testament from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. He also holds a Masters of Arts degree in Marriage and Family Counseling from Reformed Theological Seminary in Jackson.

Since earning his counseling degree, John has served as an Associate Pastor of Family Ministry and Counseling in a church in Mississippi. In this role he counseled various people in the community with family and individual issues. Later, he furthered his education and experience by serving on staff at The ARK, a division of the Mississippi Children’s Home Services in Jackson. He was a therapist to adolescents with drug and alcohol addictions.

John counsels couples in the areas of marriage, family issues, and parenting. He also assists individuals in the areas of depression, addictions, anger, and spiritual matters.

John and his wife, Sue, have been married over 32 years and have two grown children. They are recent members of Broadmoor Baptist Church.

   

BARBARA KNOPES

STAFF COUNSELOR

Raised in Seattle, Barbara moved to California and graduated from Stanford in 1975.  She completed her Master’s degree in Marriage, Family and Child Counseling from the University of Santa Clara in 1979.  She has counseled over 32 years in a variety of settings; 21 of those years being in private practice in the Pacific Northwest.

She is a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist; a Clinical Member of the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapists (AAMFT); an Internationally Certified Professional Christian Counselor (ICPCC); and a Spiritual Director trained by NewWay Ministries in Colorado.

Barbara counsels women with a variety of concerns: individual and family relationships; singleness (never married or through divorce or widowhood); marital challenges; infidelity; addictions; depression; anxiety; college or relocation adjustment; health concerns; career or personal burnout; and learning to hear God more clearly - seeking Him for personal direction.

Barbara offers premarital counseling, leads support and intercessory prayer groups, and also counsels non-members of Broadmoor.

Mrs. Knopes enjoys deepening her dependence on God, spiritual friendships, family, reading, prayer, bicycling, skiing, golf, and gardening.  She lives in Ridgeland with Keith, her husband of over 32 years, who is a cardiac anesthesiologist at UMC.  They are members of Broadmoor Baptist Church and have two grown sons in college. 

   

CHRIS WEBB

STAFF COUNSELOR

Chris Webb grew up in Laurel, Mississippi and graduated from the University of Southern Mississippi with a degree in Secondary Education. He went to New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary earning a Masters of Arts in Christian Education. He furthered his education at Mississippi College with a Master of Science degree in Counseling Psychology with an emphasis in Marriage and Family Therapy.

Chris has served families on church staff in Mississippi churches for over 24 years in a variety of positions. He is also the co-author of 1-2-3 Magic for Christian Parents - Effective Discipline for Children2-12 which has sold over 25,000 copies. He will also be releasing the 2nd edition to this book and a workbook in the Fall of 2010. His writings have appeared in many newspapers and national magazines and he speaks nationally to parents, therapists and teachers on topics related to children, parenting and marriage through his organization The Family Coaching Clinic.

Chris lives in Madison with his wife of seventeen years, Jill, and their three children, Reagan, Kennedy and John Walker.
